The Asmat are a cannibalistic tribe that resides in the Papua province of New Guinea. They are well known for their "Ancestor Skulls," in which they decorate the skulls of their ancestors to be venerated and displayed in sacred places for ritual and ceremonial purposes. The eye sockets and nasal passages are closed to prevent evil spirits from entering the skull. They are often decorated with sea shells, woven fibers, seeds, feathers, and bone.

This beautiful, unique Asmat Ancestor Skull is in excellent condition and would make an incredible display piece as a part of any collection. Instead of the common feather headdress, this specimen has one made from grassy fibers. *Stand not included*
