The Dayak are a headhunting tribe from Borneo of Indonesia. They are well known for their carved "Trophy Skulls," which were taken from their enemies. These skulls were used to denote the status of warriors and their families in their community. They would often symbolize valorous deeds, wealth, and social status.
This carved Dayak trophy skull is in amazing condition, with an incredibly beautiful, aged patina. This specimen has two shells in the eye sockets, and two shells that are strung onto each of the zygomatic arches. The skull is gorgeously carved throughout, and has rattan lashings wrapped around it. A very unusual and fascinating piece that would make an exceptional addition to any collection.
