This antique medical specimen has a fair amount of damage, but retains a great deal of character. The number "5" is written in several places on the skull, likely used as an inventory number. This piece was prepared by the Carolina Biological Supply Company, and the original label is still present on the back of the skull. There are a few pieces of bone missing; most notably from the left temporal bone and from the occipital bone. The calvarium is somewhat separated at the sutures, but is held together with some old adhesive. The orbits and nasal cavity are well-preserved. The mandible is articulated on springs. Most of the dentition is present, while several teeth are missing or damaged. This specimen would make a great starter-skull for a new collector, or would also make a unique addition to any collection.
