Vanuatu is an island nation located in the South Pacific Ocean. The indigenous inhabitants are referred to as Ni-Vanuatu, literally meaning "of Vanuatu." These tribes are well known for their Overmodeled Ancestor Skulls, which belonged to their elders and were used to commemorate their passing. The skull would be covered in clay, through which a face would be newly modeled and decorated using pigment, fibers, and shells. It is common for these skulls to be part of a larger effigy called, "Rambaramp."

This Ni-Vanuatu Ancestor Skull is in excellent condition. Clay and fiber covers the front portion of the skull, while the back is exposed. This impressive specimen would make a wonderful addition to any collection.
