The 'Damaru' is a sacred two-sided drum that is used in both Hindu and Buddhist tantric rituals. In Hinduism, this drum is known as the instrument of Shiva, used to produce spiritual sounds through which the universe was created.
 
This Damaru is made from the calvariums of two human skulls, and features two fabric strikers. The ends of the drum are covered in skin, though it is uncertain what type of skin was used for this piece. This rare and fascinating damaru is completely functional, and would be a spectacular addition to any collection.
