A Beauchene skull is an "exploded" skull that has been disarticulated and painstakingly reassembled on a stand with hinged, sliding supports which allow the separated bones to be moved and studied. There is some debate as to which individual was the original creator of this type of preparation, but many agree that it was most likely a French physician named Edmé Pierre Chauvot de Beauchêne, who developed this method in the early 1800's. This gorgeous skull comes from a 15-year-old child, and has been expertly articulated and mounted to allow for close examination of the different bones that make up the human skull. The dentition is all present, and in excellent condition. This stunning specimen is quite rare, and would make an impressive centerpiece to any collection.
