An exceptional group of 5 antique Tibetan skull beads, each individually hand carved from the ball end of a human femur. Originally forming part of a mundamala, these carvings once adorned an important ceremonial object within the Vajrayana Buddhist tradition, where they served as powerful symbols of impermanence, the transcendence of ego, and the cyclical nature of life and death. The mundamala is a sacred garland or necklace made of human skulls or severed heads, worn by fierce deities in Hinduism and Vajrayana Buddhism, such as Kali and Shiva.

These beads have a beautifully aged patina, and no two beads are alike, each skull displays its own unique expression and subtle variation in carving, reflecting the hand of the original artisan. These remarkable beads are incredibly rare, and represent a compelling addition to any serious collection of Tibetan ritual art.
