An exceptional antique Vatican-made Catholic reliquary containing ten individually identified relics, formerly belonging to Cardinal Luigi Tripepi (1836-1906), an Italian cardinal, Vatican official, theologian, and poet. In the Catholic tradition, relics consist of a tiny physical remnant of the individual, and are housed in a protective container, known as a reliquary. This elaborate example features ten relics arranged around a hand-painted image of the Virgin Mary and Christ Child, surrounded by intricate gilt-paper ornamentation. Particularly notable is "Velo B.M.V." (Velo Beatae Mariae Virginis), identifying a relic associated with the Veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The relics included are:
- Veil of the Blessed Virgin Mary
- St. Vincent Ferrer
- St. Prosper, Martyr
- St. Felix, Martyr
- St. Valentine, Martyr
- St. Angelus, Martyr
- St. Benedict, Martyr
- St. Pacificus, Martyr
- St. Verecunda, Martyr
- St. Mary Frances, Virgin
The reverse retains its original ecclesiastical wax seal and securing cords, still intact and unbroken. This is an unusually rare, and significant devotional object in incredible condition.
