In ancient times, bezoars were more valuable than gold, and were often mounted in elaborate gold and gem laden holders due to their valuable nature. It was believed that they held extraordinary healing powers, mainly as a universal antidote. Bezoars are incredibly rare, especially very large ones, and are formed in the gastrointestinal tracts of mammals. They are typically formed around an alien object, such as a tooth that has been swallowed, and grow in size over long periods of time. This stone is about 1.8" in diameter, and is unpolished. It has a small chip missing from one side (see photos). This piece would make a fabulous addition to any curio cabinet.
